Testimonials

'‘Thank you for a wonderful course! Our fellows were highly engaged, and they certainly learned a lot. Several of them commented on how knowledgeable you were, and they were grateful to receive the training and to learn from your expertise.” Director, Career & Postdoctoral Services, Scripps Research Institute, Florida

“The workshop was extremely well organized and helpful. Thank you so much to all involved!”  Workshop Participant

“The workshop was great and the presenters wonderful!”  Workshop Participant

“The course was very informative, and I feel more prepared now than ever.... I appreciate the insights the GWM team have shared with us.” NIAMS Postdoctoral Fellow

“I do appreciate all three panelists. They are amazing. Thank you!”  Workshop Participant

“Please repeat this course.  It was fantastic.” Workshop Participant

“The workshop was great and the presenters wonderful!”  Workshop Participant

“First, I would like to thank the GWM team for the wonderful job you have done for me and the other trainees.  The course was indeed helpful, very informative yet challenging.  When I started the course, I didn’t have any idea of what to expect or what is behind writing a grant application.  For me, it was hard at the beginning. Writing an application is not easy and requires good ideas, commitment, technical and grammatical skills, and patience and the GWM team did a great job explaining the importance of all of these “ingredients” when writing a successful application. Besides that, the most difficult aspect of this GWM experience was to face myself as scientist and analyze my position on my carrier path. Sometimes when you are a postdoc in your first year, your goal is to learn as quick and as much as you can to improve your technical skills without really thinking about your project. By attending this course, I realized the importance of asking the right questions in order to put together ideas and perform the right experiments required for telling your “scientific story.”  Working with Mary Kay, the science writer, was priceless.  Thanks to all for a wonderful experience.” NIAMS postdoctoral Fellow.

“Thanks to GWM for all their support.  The GWM team was superb, melded well and supported each other well while facilitating the course. I would vouch for your team again to deliver the course coupled with your immense experience.” NIAID postdoctoral Fellow

Thank you for providing this series overall. I think it is a key set of lectures for anyone who wants to apply for NIH funding and not everyone is guided about this information appropriately. So, thank you!”  Workshop Participant

“Awesome! I wish I could share this course with all my colleagues.” Workshop Participant

Thank you. The whole course was so thoughtfully structured. I also appreciate all the valuable feedback on my writings. I really enjoyed the mock review too because I could apply the same principles to my own proposal by putting myself on the other side of the table. I would say it was very valuable for a postdoc at the NIH to learn about the grant writing &  reviewing process.” NIMH postdoctoral Fellow

“Thank you GWM team for your help and guidance as I wrote my K99/R00 application. I appreciate all of your perspectives to help answer my questions and I felt like I had a couple of aha moments during our chats.  Now I think I know why one of my intramural mentors recommended me to take this course.  It made me feel privileged having access to not only the resources to help build my science career, but also YOU – your expertise and experience with grant writing, reviewing, and mentoring!”  NIMH postdoctoral Fellow

“GWM Team. Just wanted to share with you that my K22 application was successfully submitted Sunday night! Thank you very much for all your help! I hope more fellows at the NIH get a chance to profit from your help in the future!” NIMH postdoctoral Fellow.

“Thank YOU, it was a pleasure and a benefit participating in the course.  I greatly appreciate everyone’s hard work in organizing and delivering the course.” NIAID Postdoctoral Fellow.

“I am beyond thankful for GWM for all that they have done for me!  I am grateful that I learned about their services at such an early stage in my professional journey. As a junior faculty, I am navigating my career and figuring out the best and most strategic path forward.  Not only did GWM provide incomparable experience on how to write a grant, but also rendered first-hand knowledge about having a purposeful and significant career in science, especially amidst the hustle and bustle of acquiring grant funds.  The NIH grant writing process is very daunting and overwhelming, so having GWM to guide me through the process has been extremely helpful.  They are all very knowledgeable about the minor tasks to the most challenging tasks, even to the point where they anticipated things that I was not aware of, such as crucial changes to the NIH guidelines, aspects of the budget, and managing my institutional requirements. Above all, no matter how many times I felt like writing an R01 as an Early Stage Investigator was too ambitious, they continued to work with me, provided helpful feedback and constructive criticism, and never stopped believing in me and my contributions to science and translational medicine. They have been an invaluable asset to my mentoring team ensuring a successful, productive, and impactful future.  Thank you so very much GWM for EVERYTHING!” Angel S. Byrd, M.D., Ph.D., Howard University, College of Medicine

“It really was a pleasure taking part of the workshop, especially the mock review. The feedback has been insightful for shaping my K99/R00 application, as well as for faculty positions I am currently applying for. Seeing how grant review functions through the mock review was my favorite part of the course! I am glad to hear I was able to effectively translate what I have learned from you all to constructive feedback for my colleagues.” NIMH Postdoctoral Fellow.

“I would like (to the utmost) thank you all for this such VALUABLE opportunity with lots of instructions and cheering. When I started the course, I really had no (i.e., zero) idea how to look at the SF424 guidelines and what I need to know when writing NIH grants. Now I know them to a very comfortable degree! From the bottom of my heart, I could not have come to this point without the course and GWM mentors.” NIAID Postdoctoral Fellow
